Before you panic or celebrate

About the Website Check

What the free check looks at, what it can’t see, and how much weight to put on the number it gives you. Read this before you rebuild anything.

It shows you the symptoms — not the cure. Please don’t perform surgery on yourself off the back of it.

What it actually looks at

The Website Check reads a single page of your site, the way Google’s first glance would. It checks the on-page basics: your title and description, your headings, whether your images are labelled, your local-business signals, whether the page is mobile-friendly, how quickly it loads, and a handful of other technical odds and ends.

What it can’t see

This is the important bit. The check is quick and free, which means it’s looking through one window — not walking the whole house. It can’t see:

  • your backlinks, or how much authority your site has earned,
  • how old your domain is, or its history,
  • where you actually rank on Google right now,
  • what your competitors are up to,
  • anything about your other pages,
  • whether your visitors actually turn into customers.

The boys: It’s a torch in one room. Handy — but it won’t tell you the state of the wiring in the whole house.

Treat the score as a nudge, not a verdict

The number you get is there to point you in a direction, not to grade your soul. A “Fixer-upper” isn’t a disaster, and a high score isn’t a guarantee you’re winning — it just means the on-page basics on that one page are in decent shape. Real SEO is bigger than any ten-second scan.

It’s a starting point, not professional advice

The findings are things to look into — not instructions to act on blindly. Before you tear up your homepage or rewrite everything off the back of a free tool, talk to a human (us, or someone you trust). Context matters, and a scan doesn’t know your business the way you do.

Norm: I ran mine, saw “Fixer-upper,” and nearly had a fit. Turned out two small tweaks sorted most of it. Don’t be me — read the findings before you panic.

No guarantees, and that’s the honest truth

We’ve built the check to be genuinely useful, but it’s free and automated, so we can’t promise it’s complete or that it’ll be spot-on for every site. We’re not liable for what happens if you act on it without getting proper advice first.

Want the full picture?

A real audit looks at everything this tool can’t — backlinks, competitors, your whole site, the lot. If you’d like one, have a look at our plans or get in touch. No pressure, no number-one promises — just honest work.
